OpenAI to acquire Ona to expand enterprise AI tools
OpenAI said on June 11 that it would acquire Ona, a startup that provides secure, pre-configured cloud environments for AI agents to help Codex handle longer-running tasks and support wider production use.
Terms were not disclosed, and the deal remains subject to customary closing conditions.
After it closes, Ona’s staff will join OpenAI’s Codex team. Codex support more than 5 million weekly active users.
Ona’s infrastructure lets agents run continuously on long, complex workflows. OpenAI said this should make Codex easier to deploy securely in production. The company cited uses such as vulnerability scanning, application modernization, and testing.
The acquisition extends OpenAI’s recent push into enterprise AI agents. In March, OpenAI said it would buy Promptfoo, which focuses on AI testing, security, and compliance. The deal also comes as Anthropic expands its enterprise AI offerings.
