OpenAI has acquired the Chat.com domain, which was originally owned by Dharmesh Shah, HubSpot’s founder and CTO.

The domain had previously sold for US$15.5 million to Shah.

Website visitors entering Chat.com are now redirected to ChatGPT, OpenAI’s AI chatbot.

Shah had acquired the domain for personal use but opted to sell it to OpenAI, recognizing it as a suitable match for the domain.

“I know many are curious about the sale price price. So, here’s a prompt that GPT-o1 does a really good job of reasoning through,” wrote Shah.
