OnlyFans reportedly in $8b sale talks with investor group

Fenix International Ltd, the owner of OnlyFans, is reportedly in talks to sell the platform to an investor group led by the Forest Road Company.

The potential deal is valued at around US$8 billion, though there has been no official confirmation.

Discussions have been ongoing since at least March 2025.

Fenix is also exploring other options, including an IPO and talks with other buyers.

OnlyFans saw revenue jump from US$375 million in 2020 to US$6.6 billion in 2023, according to British regulatory filings.

The platform has drawn major investor interest despite facing scrutiny over allegations of illegal content.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Creator platforms demonstrate remarkable revenue scaling potential

OnlyFans’ rise from $375 million in revenue in 2020 to $6.6 billion in 2023 exemplifies the growth potential of creator economy platforms with direct monetization models1.

The platform’s business model, taking a consistent 20% cut of creator earnings, has proven profitable, allowing owner Leonid Radvinsky to extract over $1 billion in dividends over three years1.

This growth trajectory challenges traditional media business models, demonstrating how platforms that facilitate direct creator-to-consumer transactions can achieve rapid scaling with relatively low operational complexity.

The $8 billion valuation reflects investors’ recognition of OnlyFans’ efficient financial structure, including negative working capital and high EBITDA margins that outperform many traditional technology companies2.

Despite its controversial content focus, OnlyFans’ financial fundamentals align with broader adult entertainment market projections showing 8.8% CAGR through 2029, indicating sustained growth potential in this sector3.

2️⃣ Regulatory risks create both barriers and opportunities for investors

The potential Forest Road acquisition occurs amid intensifying regulatory pressures, with new laws in the UK and EU affecting age verification and content moderation for adult platforms2.
