🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ EWA services reflect deep-seated financial fragility in today’s workforce

The rapid growth of earned wage access services like Tapcheck directly correlates with widespread financial stress among workers, with 60% of full-time employees reporting money-related anxiety 1.

The $225 million financing for Tapcheck comes amid an expanding EWA market that reached $22.5 billion in 2022 and is projected to hit $26.74 billion by 2030 2.

This growth is fueled by stark statistics: 49% of employees struggle to meet household expenses on time, and nearly half run out of money between paychecks 1.

Rising inflation has particularly worsened this situation, with 44% of employees stating inflation has severely impacted their financial situation and 59% feeling their compensation isn’t keeping pace with living costs 3.

The emergence of services like Tapcheck represents a market-based response to a structural economic problem where traditional biweekly pay cycles no longer align with the immediacy of financial needs for many workers.

2️⃣ Employers increasingly view financial wellness tools as retention strategy amid labor challenges

Companies’ embrace of EWA reflects a strategic shift, with 84% of employers now believing that offering financial wellness tools helps reduce employee attrition 4.

Tapcheck’s claim of boosting employee retention by over 50% aligns with broader industry findings that financially stressed employees are significantly more likely to seek new employment opportunities 3.

Major employers including Hilton, Planet Fitness, and McDonald’s have implemented Tapcheck specifically in industries with high-churn frontline workforces, where retention challenges are most acute.
