Ola Electric plans EV scooter for gig workers

India’s Ola Electric, a Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler maker, plans to launch a commercial scooter for gig workers in the coming quarters after receiving approval from the Automotive Research Association of India in early February, people aware of the matter said.

The vehicle is aimed at quick-commerce and ecommerce deliveries.

It is expected to have a modular design for delivery boxes and other attachments, and support a payload of 120 kg to 150 kg.

Ola Electric has not disclosed pricing or whether it will sell the scooter directly or through partnerships.

The move targets a growing market. India’s quick-commerce gross merchandise value (GMV) grew from US$500 million in FY2021-22 to US$3.34 billion in FY2023-24, while delivery vehicles typically travel 5x to 6x more each day than personal vehicles.

The launch also comes as Ola Electric seeks to rebuild market share after months of declining sales.

VAHAN data for April 2026 showed Ola Electric at 8.18% of India’s electric two-wheeler market, behind TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, and Ather Energy.

In the delivery EV market, rivals such as Yulu and Zypp mainly rent out or operate fleets for platform companies, while PM E-DRIVE covered commercial and corporate-owned electric two-wheelers through March 31, 2026.
