Ola Electric denies sales data discrepancies
Ola Electric has rejected recent media reports alleging discrepancies in its February 2025 sales figures, stating in an Apr. 8 filing that 90% of reported orders were fully paid.
Reports, including one by Bloomberg, claimed that Ola Electric included bookings of electric scooters and motorcycles in its February sales figures without delivering them.
The company stated that deliveries are scheduled to follow confirmed orders, in line with industry practices.
The orders reportedly included new models, the Gen 3 and Roadster X, which were made available for purchase in February.
Ola Electric did not confirm whether it is being investigated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways over sales discrepancies.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Legacy automakers gaining ground in electric two-wheeler market
The shifting dynamics of the electric two-wheeler market highlight how established manufacturers are rapidly catching up to early movers.
Ola Electric’s market share has steadily declined from 35% in FY24 to 30% in FY25 despite growing absolute sales numbers, showing the challenges of maintaining market leadership1.
This trend became particularly pronounced in March 2025 when traditional manufacturers Bajaj Auto (34,863 units) and TVS Motors (30,454 units) both outsold Ola Electric (23,430 units) for the first time2.
Bajaj Auto demonstrated exceptional growth with sales surging 116% year-on-year to 230,808 units in FY25, nearly doubling its market share to 20% and significantly narrowing the gap with Ola Electric1.
The competitive landscape reflects a broader pattern where established automotive players leverage their manufacturing expertise, distribution networks, and brand trust to challenge pure-play EV startups.
2️⃣ The critical gap between sales reporting and actual registrations
Ola Electric’s reporting controversy highlights the importance of transparency in how EV manufacturers communicate their market performance.
VAHAN data showed only 8,390 Ola Electric vehicles were registered in February 2025, representing a significant discrepancy compared to the company’s claimed sales of 25,000 units – a gap that prompted regulatory scrutiny from two government ministries.
