OKX, Tether partner to expand multichain USDT transfers
OKX has partnered with Tether to integrate USDT0, a unified liquidity network for Tether’s stablecoin, onto OKX’s Ethereum Layer 2 network, X Layer, as well as its wallet and exchange.
This integration allows OKX customers to deposit and withdraw USDT0 directly, offering access to stablecoin liquidity across networks such as Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, and others.
USDT0 uses LayerZero’s Omnichain Fungible Token standard, enabling cross-chain transfers that are claimed to be backed 1:1 by USDT.
Company executives said the partnership aims to streamline stablecoin transfers and expand multichain liquidity for users and developers on the OKX platform.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Cross-chain infrastructure becomes critical for stablecoin market growth
- USDT0’s rapid adoption demonstrates the urgent need for unified liquidity across blockchain networks, achieving $11.3 billion in bridge volume and over 251,000 cross-chain transfers in less than a year since launch1.
- The integration addresses a fundamental problem in decentralized finance: stablecoin liquidity fragmentation across different blockchain networks that has historically required complex bridging mechanisms.
- By becoming the most active Omnichain Fungible Token in the LayerZero ecosystem, USDT0 shows how technical standards like OFT can create seamless value transfer between networks while maintaining 1:1 backing by canonical USDT1.
- This approach eliminates the friction of wrapped tokens and bridges, which have been barriers to cross-chain stablecoin usage in decentralized markets.
Major exchanges expand beyond trading to become full-stack infrastructure providers
- OKX’s development of X Layer as an Ethereum Layer 2 network represents a strategic shift where exchanges build proprietary blockchain infrastructure rather than solely relying on external networks1.
- The integration connects OKX’s centralized exchange directly with decentralized markets, enabling users to move liquidity between traditional and decentralized finance without intermediary steps.
- This vertical integration strategy allows OKX to offer “low-cost, high-speed transactions” while maintaining full control over the user experience across both centralized and decentralized services1.
- By supporting nine chain pathways through USDT0, OKX positions itself as a multichain infrastructure provider rather than just a trading platform, potentially capturing more value from the broader DeFi ecosystem.
