OCBC to offer ringgit to Singapore savers from 2026
OCBC, a Singapore-based bank, said it will add Malaysian ringgit to its Global Savings Account and Premier Global Savings Account from 23 October 2026.
Customers can hold up to 50,000 ringgit (US$12,000) convert Singapore dollars, and use ringgit for debit card payments or automated teller machine withdrawals in Malaysia.
To earn interest, customers must keep an average daily MYR balance of 5,000.
OCBC said the launch would make it the first non-Malaysian bank to offer ringgit in a Singapore-based personal savings account.
The bank tied the move to rising cross-border demand, saying Malaysia was its customers’ top overseas spending destination.
It said the RTS Link, a rail project linking Johor Bahru and Singapore, would boost travel.
Bank Negara Malaysia, Malaysia’s central bank, sets out foreign exchange rules and restricts certain offshore ringgit-linked derivatives.
However, the policy materials reviewed did not explicitly address offshore personal ringgit accounts.
