OCBC holds AI hackathon for 33,000 employees

OCBC, a Singapore-headquartered bank, held an internal hackathon with the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) on October 22, inviting its 33,000 employees to build AI prototypes for workplace use.

Nearly three-quarters of submissions came from employees in non-technology roles. AI agents built in-house screened the entries before OCBC AI Champions reviewed more than 400 prototypes and picked 10 finalists. OCBC named four winners in team and individual categories.

SIT, an autonomous university in Singapore, will choose promising prototypes for further development at the SIT x NVIDIA AI Technology Centre. The university also offers an applied AI degree program.

The event is part of OCBC’s AI efforts, which include generative AI skills training for all wealth advisers. Separately, the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s Veritas initiative supports responsible adoption of AI and data analytics in financial services.
