Dutch chipmaker NXP secures $1b loan for R&D in Europe
NXP, a semiconductor manufacturer based in the Netherlands, has received a €1 billion (around US$1.03 billion) loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB).
The six-year loan, which carries a 4.75% interest rate, will support research and development initiatives in Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Romania.
This funding is part of an EIB investment program launched last year aimed at strengthening Europe’s position in strategic technologies such as microchips and artificial intelligence.
NXP will focus on projects that develop advanced power electronics, microprocessors, and microcontrollers, with an emphasis on energy efficiency.
