Nvidia teams up with Indian VCs to back AI startups
Nvidia is collaborating with Indian venture capital firms, including Peak XV, Z47, Elevation Capital, and other local VCs to identify and fund AI startups in India.
The company also works with government agencies, research institutions, cloud providers, and E2E Networks to support the development of data centers and AI infrastructure.
Nvidia’s initiatives are aligned with India’s “IndiaAI mission,” which aims to expand the country’s AI capabilities. Over 4,000 Indian AI startups participate in Nvidia’s global startup program, which helps with scaling and market entry.
India’s government has approved US$18 billion for semiconductor projects to develop a domestic supply chain, and the country expects up to US$200 billion in investments for data centers over the next few years.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Nvidia’s India strategy covers full-stack AI infrastructure
- Nvidia is working with Indian cloud providers to install more than 20,000 Nvidia Blackwell Ultra GPUs (graphics processing units, chips commonly used to run and train AI models) for India’s sovereign AI infrastructure 1.
- Nvidia is also supplying the Nemotron toolkit. It includes a dataset of 21 million synthetic “Indic personas” built from publicly available census data to help create models that better match India’s varied population 2.
- Startup support also includes cheaper access to computing. Yotta, an infrastructure partner, said it plans to keep compute affordable through flexible payment options, including taking equity instead of cash for its GPU cloud services 3.
India fits Nvidia’s wider sovereign AI plan
- India follows a broader approach. Nvidia wants telecom operators and cloud providers to run “sovereign AI” infrastructure, including “AI factories,” large data-center-style deployments tuned for AI workloads. Nvidia says it is pursuing this across Europe, Canada, and Indonesia 4.
- The financing backdrop looks mixed. Peak XV, a venture firm Nvidia works with, reduced fund size and fees in 2024. It cited worries such as a “perceived dearth of venture-scale opportunities” in the near term 5.
