Nvidia targets up to 2 GW AI capacity in Australia
Nvidia said it planned to expand data center computing capacity in Australia with local partners Firmus, CDC, NEXTDC, and AirTrunk.
The company is targeting up to 2 gigawatts of AI-related capacity by 2027 through its partners’ facilities using its DSX platform.
Nvidia said DSX is an AI Factory Design, Simulation, and Operations platform for data centers.
However, its public materials do not clarify whether the 2-gigawatt figure refers to total facility power, information technology load, or another metric.
Australia’s current computing capacity is 1.6 gigawatts, according to Data Centres Australia, citing research from analyst firm DC Byte.
The announcement comes as Australia tries to position itself as a global hub for data center investment.
At the same time, the industry faces calls for tougher regulation over its environmental impact and heavy energy and water use.
