Nvidia Q2 earnings to test AI sector strength, tech market
Nvidia will report its Q2 earnings on Wednesday, drawing attention after a recent slide in US tech stocks.
The chipmaker’s results are seen as a key indicator for the AI sector, which has powered much of the S&P 500’s gains this year.
Nvidia’s stock is up about 30% in 2025 and has surged over 1,400% since October 2022.
Analysts expect the company to post a 48% rise in earnings per share on revenue of US$45.9 billion, according to LSEG data.
Nvidia is viewed by many investors as a proxy for the broader AI trade, and its performance is likely to impact the entire tech sector.
The “Magnificent 7” group of megacap tech firms, including Nvidia, are on track to have increased earnings by 26% year-on-year, compared to 7% for the rest of the S&P 500.
Nvidia’s results will conclude a Q2 earnings season that has largely beaten expectations.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ AI investment surge contrasts sharply with measurable business impact
The disconnect between AI investment enthusiasm and actual results is becoming increasingly apparent across corporate America.
A MIT study analyzing 150 executive interviews and 300 public AI deployments found that 95% of generative AI pilot programs had “little to no measurable impact” on revenue or profits2. This finding comes as AI and machine learning deals captured 35.7% of global venture capital value in 2024, up from 24.7% in 20233.
The gap becomes more pronounced when examining consumer versus company benefits. Researchers estimate that consumers derived $97 billion in surplus welfare from generative AI in 2024, while AI companies generated only $7 billion in revenues4.
This suggests that while AI technology is creating significant value for users, companies are struggling to capture that value economically. The pattern resembles classic technology adoption cycles where initial utility doesn’t immediately translate to sustainable business models.
2️⃣ Nvidia’s market influence creates unprecedented concentration risk
Nvidia’s remarkable growth has created a level of market concentration that poses unique risks to broader equity performance.
