Nvidia plans $3b investment in Stargate developer Lancium
Nvidia plans to invest up to US$3 billion in Lancium, a Texas-based power infrastructure developer behind the Stargate data center campus in Abilene.
Nvidia would initially invest US$2 billion for about a 20% stake, with another US$1 billion tied to milestones including grid hookups.
The investment would value Lancium and its land and power assets at about US$10 billion, and could support the company’s expansion and a possible initial public offering in 2027.
Lancium, led by co-founder and CEO Michael McNamara and headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas, describes itself as an energy technology and infrastructure company for gigawatt-scale AI data centers.
Lancium’s Abilene campus is the first operational site of Stargate, a joint venture between SoftBank, OpenAI, and Oracle to build AI data centers.
The campus has a 1.2-gigawatt interconnect that Lancium says was fully approved by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT.
Crusoe said in March 2025 that the Abilene site was being expanded to eight buildings totaling about 4 million square feet and 1.2 gigawatts, with each building designed for up to 50,000 Nvidia GB200 NVL72s.
