Nvidia opens Vera chip orders for Chinese customers: sources

Nvidia has told Chinese customers they can start ordering its Vera processors for AI data centers.

The chips potentially available as soon as August, as the US chipmaker tries to revive its China business after H200 shipments to the country stalled for months.

Three sources said some customers have shown interest. One major Chinese cloud company plans to test more than 300 servers before deciding on formal orders. Each server would use two Vera processors.

It plans initial deployments at overseas data centers.

Nvidia has said systems using Vera are expected to be available in the second half of 2026.

US officials had reviewed H200 export license requests for China under a presumption of denial. The policy changed to case-by-case review in January 2026.

Nvidia said Vera supports existing software, though Chinese customers still see hurdles around ecosystem, compatibility, and workload migration.

Chinese clients’ offshore testing plans also fit a broader pattern of Chinese firms using overseas data centers to access advanced Nvidia chips.
