Nvidia says OpenAI, SpaceX will use Vera CPU

Nvidia said at Computex in Taiwan that Anthropic, OpenAI, and SpaceX will be among the first users of its Vera data center CPU, which is set for full production in the third quarter, as it expands beyond AI accelerators.

Vera is Nvidia’s first standalone data center microprocessor. It will compete with Intel’s Xeon, Advanced Micro Devices’ Epyc, and in-house chips such as Amazon’s Graviton.

Nvidia says it has an 88-core custom Arm design, and it also plans CPU-only Vera racks alongside GPU-linked systems.

CEO Jensen Huang said Vera is 1.8x faster on AI-related workloads than Intel-based x86 chips, though Nvidia has not disclosed detailed comparison systems or independent benchmark results for that claim.

Nvidia also updated its DSX data center software, said Dell Technologies and other computer makers will sell its DGX Station for Windows in the fourth quarter, and announced a humanoid robot project with Unitree, a Chinese robotics company.
