Nvidia has announced the launch of the Earth-2 family of open weather and climate AI models at the American Meteorological Society’s annual meeting.

The new models include Earth-2 Medium Range, Nowcasting, and Global Data Assimilation, designed to improve forecast accuracy and speed across different timescales.

These open-source tools aim to make weather AI accessible for scientists, startups, and government agencies globally, reducing reliance on traditional supercomputers.

Industry users such as the Israel Meteorological Service, the US National Weather Service, and energy companies are already testing these models for operational forecasting and decision-making.

Nvidia said that Earth-2 models can generate forecasts up to 15 days ahead, produce high-resolution local storm predictions, and process atmospheric data in seconds.
