Nvidia, KAIST to invest $300m in AI research center
KAIST, a South Korean science and engineering university, said on July 24 that it will set up the Nvidia-KAIST AI Joint Research Center at the Seoul campus of its Kim Jaechul Graduate School of AI.
The center will develop Korean-language and industry-specific AI systems over an initial five-year period.
KAIST said the partnership includes US$300 million in investment and US$50 million worth of AI computing resources each year.
Research will focus on AI models optimized for the Korean language, and models tailored to South Korean industries.
The center will support at least 10 KAIST researchers each year, offer Nvidia internships to participating researchers. It will be led by Nvidia’s Kim Hyunwoo, who is set to join the Kim Jaechul Graduate School of AI.
