Nvidia joins Brookfield for $100b AI infrastructure program

Brookfield has launched a US$100 billion global AI infrastructure investment program in partnership with Nvidia and the Kuwait Investment Authority.

The initiative centers on the Brookfield Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Fund (BAIIF), which has a target of US$10 billion in equity commitments and has already secured US$5 billion from institutional and industry partners.

The program will invest in AI infrastructure across the value chain, including energy, land, data centers, and computing assets.

Nvidia and the Kuwait Investment Authority will both join as investors and founding partners in the fund.

A recent seed deal includes a US$5 billion framework agreement with Bloom Energy to add up to 1 GW of power solutions for data centers and AI factories.

Brookfield will also launch Radiant, a new Nvidia Cloud Partner, to provide AI cloud services using its infrastructure.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Brookfield’s US$100B commitment hinges on securing scarce grid capacity and power

  • Brookfield’s US$100B program depends on securing megawatts of grid power and interconnection capacity (the ability to connect facilities to the electric grid). Interconnection takes 18-48 months with feasibility studies, cost assessments, and final agreements with grid operators 1.
  • Brookfield runs hydroelectric, wind, solar, and storage sites 2. It also signed a Hydro Framework Agreement (a long-term power procurement arrangement) with Google for up to 3,000 megawatts of hydro capacity 3. Generative AI data centers lean on stronger interconnection than most workloads 1.
  • France offers electricity that is 95% carbon-free with competitive pricing and a tax break that halves energy taxes for data center operators 4. Sweden benefits from the Nordic mix of cool climate, renewable power, and public incentives 5.

Suppliers and infrastructure builders should target France and Sweden immediately

  • Brookfield plans up to US$30B in France and Sweden. Energy often runs a third of data center operating costs 4.
  • Grid suppliers should move now. Get into interconnection queues (the waiting list for grid connection studies). Map available grid capacity in PJM Interconnection (PJM) and Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) regions 2.
  • AI-focused sites need continuous power and advanced cooling 5. Firms with modular designs (prefabricated data center modules), liquid cooling, and AI monitoring software can win contracts as hyperscalers (large cloud providers such as Google or Microsoft) set higher reliability demands than legacy tenants 1.
