Nvidia to invest $3.5b in MediaTek through bonds

Nvidia will invest US$3.5 billion in Taiwanese chip designer MediaTek through bonds convertible into shares, deepening their collaboration as Nvidia pushes more companies to build chips that connect to its data center ecosystem.

The companies said MediaTek will use Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion and newly announced NVHBM technology as part of a set of Nvidia technologies designed to help components communicate in data centers.

MediaTek is also seeking more custom chip business against Broadcom and Marvell.

The agreement follows a similar arrangement with Amazon and adds to Nvidia’s investments across the AI supply chain, even as some investors question whether such backing could make demand for Nvidia’s technology appear stronger.

Nvidia has disputed that characterization.
