Nvidia said on July 24 it will invest US$1 billion in South Korea’s Naver Corp. to help fund an AI data center under construction with Brookfield Corp.

The investment will more than triple the facility’s size, and the site will use Nvidia’s AI computing hardware.

The project centers on Naver’s GAK Sejong campus, which had an initial 55-megawatt planned capacity and a roadmap to reach gigawatt scale by 2029.

Naver is one of South Korea’s domestic cloud and AI infrastructure operators, serving 60,000 clients and operating a Sejong campus built for graphics processing unit-heavy workloads.

Nvidia also said it is working with SK Group, a South Korean conglomerate with businesses in telecoms, chips, and energy, on more than 2 gigawatts of AI data centers on the Korean Peninsula.

The first facility, built by SK Telecom, is due to open next year. Nvidia said that scale is comparable to other Korean projects, including a separate 3-gigawatt plan.

The partnership could also strengthen Nvidia’s memory supply chain, as SK hynix is already a supplier of high-bandwidth memory chips.

Nvidia said it will help SK hynix design future HBM chips.
