Nvidia hires former Intel lobbyist as China scrutiny grows
Nvidia has hired veteran lobbyist Bruce Andrews as chief external affairs officer in Washington, DC, according to his LinkedIn post on June 11.
The appointment comes as Washington steps up scrutiny of Nvidia’s China business. Nvidia wants to keep growing in China even as its ties to the country face scrutiny.
Separately, the US Commerce Department said in January that applications to export Nvidia H200 chips to China would be reviewed on a case-by-case basis .
Approval depends on security and compliance conditions are met.
In May, about 10 Chinese companies were cleared to buy Nvidia’s H200 AI processors, though no deliveries had been made at the time.
Andrews previously served as Intel’s chief government affairs officer under former chief executive Pat Gelsinger. He served as US deputy commerce secretary from 2014 to 2017.
