Nvidia director plans to sell $550m stake, begins with $150m
Mark Stevens, a director at Nvidia, sold over 1 million shares of the company on June 2, 2025 and June 3, 2025, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The sales generated nearly US$150 million.
These transactions are part of a plan to sell up to 4 million shares worth about US$550 million, but Stevens hasn’t confirmed selling the remaining shares.
Mark Stevens, the largest individual Nvidia shareholder after CEO Jensen Huang, owns about 0.2% of the company and has an estimated net worth of US$9.8 billion.
Nvidia’s stock has bounced back nearly 50% since April 2025, supported by a strong quarterly sales report and an optimistic revenue forecast.
Other Nvidia executives, including CEO Jensen Huang, CFO Colette Kress, and board member Brooke Seawell, also plan to sell shares in the future.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Insider selling often represents diversification rather than company concerns
Despite the large dollar amounts, Stevens’ $150 million sale represents just a fraction of his $9.8 billion net worth and likely follows a personal financial strategy rather than signaling concerns about Nvidia’s future.
Corporate insiders frequently sell shares for portfolio diversification, especially after extraordinary stock appreciation. Nvidia’s shares have increased nearly 400% since 2016 and 45% in just two months this year, adding $1 trillion to its market value 1.
The 10b5-1 trading plans established by multiple Nvidia executives, including CEO Jensen Huang and CFO Colette Kress, allow for systematic, predetermined stock sales that protect them from accusations of illegal insider trading while enabling wealth diversification 2.
This pattern of insider selling is common in highly successful tech companies where long-term executives and early investors may have an outsized percentage of their net worth tied to a single stock, creating significant concentration risk that financial advisors typically recommend addressing.
Investors should note that Nvidia insiders sold a record $2 billion worth of shares last year during a period when the company’s stock and business performance were exceptionally strong. This highlights that selling activity doesn’t necessarily predict future company performance.
2️⃣ Strategic timing patterns in legal insider transactions
Recent research from Virginia Tech reveals that corporate executives often time their stock trades around spikes in investor attention, systematically selling shares during periods of heightened retail interest when prices may be temporarily elevated 3.
