Nvidia CEO says Vera CPU will use SK Hynix memory

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in Seoul on June 7 that the company’s new Vera data center central processing unit will use memory from South Korea’s SK Hynix.

The move extends a supplier relationship that already includes high-bandwidth memory for Nvidia’s AI chips.

After dinner in Seoul with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, SK Hynix CEO Kwak Noh-Jung, and executives from SK Telecom, Huang said Nvidia had a big year with SK Hynix and was preparing for a “very, very large” second half of this year and next year.

Nvidia says Vera is its first CPU for agents and can act as both a host processor for accelerated systems and a standalone data center CPU, with partner systems due this fall.

The company has also said Vera uses LPDDR5X memory, but beyond Huang’s remarks, Nvidia has not publicly said whether SK Hynix is supplying that LPDDR5X subsystem.

Huang also said Nvidia is in talks with telecom companies because telecom networks will be used for AI in the future.
