Nvidia CEO surprised by AMD, OpenAI stake deal

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said he was surprised by AMD’s decision to give OpenAI the potential to acquire about 10% of AMD’s shares through warrants as part of a new multibillion-dollar partnership.

AMD, a US chipmaker, and OpenAI announced the deal earlier this week, with OpenAI committing to purchase AMD chips providing 6 gigawatts of computing power over several years, including the upcoming MI450 series.

The agreement grants OpenAI warrants for up to 160 million AMD shares, which could amount to about 10% ownership if all are exercised, depending on deployment milestones and AMD’s share price.

Huang described the move as “unique and surprising,” noting that AMD made the offer before launching its next-generation product.
