Nvidia CEO shares view on AI enhancing cognitive skills

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang disputed findings from a recent MIT study suggesting AI weakens cognitive abilities.

In an interview on CNN’s Fareed Zakaria GPS, Huang said his daily use of AI has actually improved his cognitive skills.

He emphasized that using AI involves critical thinking and problem-solving.

“I’m asking it to teach me things that I don’t know or help me solve problems that I otherwise wouldn’t be able to solve reasonably,” he said.

The MIT study, conducted by the Media Lab, assessed 54 people writing SAT-style essays with ChatGPT, Google Search, or no tools. It found that ChatGPT users showed lower brain engagement and poorer cognitive performance, based on EEG scans of 32 brain regions.

Huang questioned the study’s findings and said, “I’m not exactly sure what people are using it for, that would cause you to not have to think.”

He added that engaging with AI requires deep thought, analysis, and reasoning.
