Nvidia CEO reportedly plans China visit as H200 sales ease

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang plans to visit China in late January to attend company events and possibly meet with Chinese officials, according to sources.

The trip coincides with the US easing export restrictions on Nvidia’s AI chips, allowing sales of the H200 model in China, though Beijing will restrict its use in military, government, and critical infrastructure sectors.

China remains the largest semiconductor market and aims to develop its domestic chip industry, but current Chinese offerings cannot match Nvidia’s processors in AI capabilities.

The Chinese government is expected to approve some imports of the H200 this quarter. Huang has previously engaged with Chinese officials and celebrated Lunar New Year holidays in China.

Nvidia declined to comment on Huang’s upcoming visit.
