Nvidia CEO highlights first direct partnership with OpenAI

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the company has formed its first direct partnership with OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT.

Unlike previous arrangements where cloud service providers purchased Nvidia hardware for OpenAI, the new deal involves OpenAI buying directly from Nvidia.

Huang made the comments during a CNBC interview on October 7 at the New York Stock Exchange.

He said Nvidia will help OpenAI build and operate its own AI infrastructure.

Nvidia previously announced plans to invest up to US$100 billion in OpenAI to expand AI data center capacity.

The companies said OpenAI is seeking to build systems that would require 10 gigawatts of power, equal to about 4 million to 5 million Nvidia GPUs, according to Huang.
