Nvidia-backed Verse targets data center power bottlenecks
Verse Enterprises, a San Francisco-based energy software startup, has partnered with Calibrant Energy, a US developer and operator of on-site solar, battery storage, and microgrids.
The companies aims to help data centers manage on-site batteries and solar as grid-connection delays push operators to find power faster.
The deal comes as power access becomes a constraint for US data center projects.
CenterPoint Energy has reported a 700% increase in large-load interconnection requests. Developers are increasingly exploring hybrid systems that combine grid power with on-site storage or generation.
One early commercial example is Calibrant’s Pacific Northwest battery project with Aligned Data Centers. The project is designed to bring data center capacity online years earlier than traditional utility upgrades.
Policy remains unsettled. Most utilities are still developing formal procedures for large-load interconnection, though Texas updated its Large Load Interconnection Study process in May 2025.
