Nvidia-backed UK AI firm Nscale secures $2b series C
Nscale, a British AI firm backed by Nvidia, raised US$2 billion at a US$14.6 billion valuation.
The Series C round was led by Aker ASA and 8090 Industries, with participation from Dell, Nokia, Citadel, Lenovo, and Nvidia.
The funding will accelerate Nscale’s global expansion of AI infrastructure, including GPU compute, networking, data services, and orchestration software across Europe, North America, and Asia.
CEO Josh Payne said the capital will help Nscale build the “foundations for next-generation AI systems.” The company also added Sheryl Sandberg, Susan Decker, and Nick Clegg to its board to strengthen governance and strategy.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Nscale is building AI physical infrastructure, not AI models
- Nscale runs an AI-native infrastructure platform 1. It builds and operates data centers plus GPU compute clusters for large-scale AI workloads 2.
- Large funding rounds pay for GPU purchases and deployment tied to signed service contracts 3.
- Multi-year agreements anchor the business. An expanded contract would supply Microsoft with about 200,000 NVIDIA GB300 GPUs in Europe and the U.S., with up to $14 billion in revenue reported by the Financial Times 4.
- Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan are advising on a possible initial public offering. It mirrors CoreWeave, a U.S. peer that rents Nvidia-powered AI computing capacity 5.
The funding backs a new playbook for AI infrastructure buildouts
- Microsoft, a hyperscaler that runs vast cloud data-center networks, is outsourcing some near-term capacity to neoclouds, smaller cloud firms focused on AI compute, to relieve shortages 5.
- Governments are pushing “sovereign AI,” which keeps data centers onshore to meet local data rules 1. Nscale serves this need with sites in the UK, Norway, and Portugal for European customers 6.
- Alongside equity, Nscale arranged a $1.4 billion delayed draw term loan (a loan that can be borrowed in stages over time) secured by GPUs, called the “GPU DDTL” 3. The structure funds GPU buys for cluster rollouts across Europe 3.
