Nvidia-backed AI infra firm Crusoe reportedly eyes $10b valuation

Crusoe Energy Systems is in talks to raise US$1 billion in equity and debt at a valuation close to US$10 billion, according to sources.

If completed, this round could more than triple its previous valuation of US$2.8 billion from December 2024, when it raised US$600 million led by Founders Fund.

The US-based company develops and operates AI data centers and energy infrastructure.

Crusoe is the main architect of Project Ludicrous, an AI data center campus in Abilene, Texas, for OpenAI and Oracle, with an estimated construction cost of US$12 billion.

The company recently acquired Atero, an AI computing management firm in Tel Aviv.

Earlier this year, it opened its first European facility in Norway and said it now operates data centers with a total capacity of 3.4 gigawatts.

To date, Crusoe has raised US$2.5 billion from investors including Fidelity, Mubadala, Nvidia, Ribbit Capital, and Valor Equity Partners.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ AI infrastructure valuations reflect unprecedented market demand surge

Crusoe’s potential jump from a $2.8 billion valuation in December to $10 billion today represents more than just company-specific growth; it mirrors explosive demand across the entire AI infrastructure sector1.

This 257% valuation increase in roughly eight months aligns with broader market trends, where organizations increased AI infrastructure spending by 97% year-over-year in the first half of 2024, reaching $47.4 billion2.

The scale becomes clearer when considering that Microsoft alone plans to invest $80 billion in AI-enabled data centers in fiscal 2025, while Goldman Sachs forecasts that global data center power demand will increase by 165% by 2030 driven by AI workloads23.

Crusoe’s involvement in the $12 billion OpenAI-Oracle Stargate project demonstrates how individual AI infrastructure deals now reach unprecedented scales, requiring companies to raise billion-dollar funding rounds just to participate1.

2️⃣ Revenue model pivots highlight both opportunity and execution risk in AI infrastructure

Crusoe’s business transformation reveals the rapid evolution happening across AI infrastructure companies as they pivot from traditional revenue streams.
