Abu Dhabi’s Technology Innovation Institute (TII) and Nvidia have launched a joint research lab in the United Arab Emirates to develop advanced AI models and robotics, TII said on September 22.

TII, the applied research arm of the Advanced Technology Research Council, said this is the first Nvidia AI Technology Center in the Middle East.

The lab will combine TII’s research with Nvidia’s AI technology and computing power.

TII CEO Najwa Aaraj said the institute will use Nvidia’s Thor chip to support research on robotics, including humanoids and robotic arms.

The UAE has invested heavily in AI and has been working to strengthen its ties with US tech firms.

TII and Nvidia have collaborated previously, with TII using Nvidia chips to train its own language models.

The new research hub will employ teams from both organizations, and plans to hire additional staff for the project.
