NTU, Zero Gravity unveils $3.8m AI blockchain research hub
Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore and Zero Gravity (0G), a decentralized AI infrastructure company, have launched a S$5 million (US$3.83 million) joint research hub to develop blockchain-based AI technologies.
The four-year initiative will support projects on decentralized AI training, blockchain-integrated model alignment, and proof-of-useful-work consensus mechanisms.
This marks 0G’s first university collaboration globally.
The collaboration will be jointly led by Professor Wen Yonggang, NTU associate provost (graduate education) and dean of the Graduate College, and Dr Ming Wu, 0G co-founder and chief technology officer.
Their teams will develop decentralized computing architectures and secure AI marketplaces that reward contributors for data and computing resources.
The research hub will also include workshops, hackathons, student scholarships, and open-source projects.
Early proof-of-concept applications are expected within two years, targeting pilot applications in sectors like finance, healthcare, and smart infrastructure.
NTU’s College of Computing and Data Science and its Centre in Computational Technologies for Finance (CCTF) will provide research leadership in scalable model training, AI governance, and blockchain-enabled security frameworks.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
0G’s testnet is active while real-world AI uses remain unproven
- 0G runs the Newton testnet (a public trial blockchain network used to test features before a production mainnet) with validator nodes, storage, and data availability layers (systems that ensure transaction data remains accessible) per its v2 launch materials 1.
- The testnet explorers (web dashboards) let users track real-time transactions and validator performance 1.
- Public materials cover validators, token swaps (trading one crypto token for another), and storage nodes, not live AI workloads like model training or inference (running a trained model to generate outputs) that the NTU–0G research hub aims to enable 1.
- 0G lists 11,000 transactions per second and work on a globally distributed 100B+ (100 billion-plus) parameter AI model 1. These read as research milestones, not production deployments. NTU–0G runs a four-year initiative with early proof-of-concept applications expected within two years, so decentralized AI capabilities remain in development for finance or healthcare use.
Singapore AI developers can use regulatory sandboxes to prototype blockchain-AI products ahead of competitors
- AI Singapore (a national program that funds and coordinates AI research and deployment) has a 2025 Joint Grant Call with up to S$1.2 million for collaborative AI projects 2. Singapore-based teams building on 0G can apply by framing work around copyright-compliant data provenance (traceable histories of how data was sourced and used) or ethical AI agent systems to secure non-dilutive funding.
- Singapore’s fintech rules include regulatory sandboxes (controlled testing environments overseen by regulators) 3. These provide a path to pilot blockchain-based AI products before rivals in places with unclear crypto-AI regulations.
- Startups and systems integrators targeting finance, healthcare, and smart infrastructure can become integration partners. Build services such as compliant data tokenization (representing real-world or sensitive data as regulated digital tokens) or decentralized compute orchestration layers (software that schedules and manages workloads across distributed computing resources).
