NTU to host new AI robotics lab with Germany motion tech firm
Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore and ttec have launched a new phase in their partnership to develop AI-enabled humanoid robotics at a new 900-square-meter corporate laboratory on NTU’s campus.
The lab will focus on collaborative robotics, autonomous mobile robot platforms, and assistive robotic systems for manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare.
It is supported by Singapore’s National Research Foundation under the Research, Innovation, and Enterprise 2025 plan and involves the Economic Development Board.
The lab is part of Schaeffler’s global research network and will collaborate with other research institutions.
Previous NTU-Schaeffler work since 2017 produced technologies such as real-time touch and force visualization for robots and a universal soft gripper for manufacturing.
The partnership also provides research and training opportunities for students alongside Schaeffler engineers.

- Singapore treats SS ISO 10218, the Singapore Standard adoption of ISO 10218, as an Approved Code of Practice via the Workplace Safety and Health Council (WSHC) 4. That gives teams across manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare a clear reference for collaborative robot deployments.

LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors with Performance Level d (PLd) under ISO 13849 5 also fit, which lets consultancies and systems integrators bundle them into turnkey safety assessment offerings.
- Risk assessment guidance under ISO/TS 15066 for collaborative applications 5 creates recurring service opportunities as facilities modify robot tasks or add new collaborative zones.
