NTU, Google sign pact to expand AI in teaching, research

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Google signed a memorandum of understanding in Singapore on October 30 to expand AI use in teaching and research, support workforce training, and study AI safety.

The agreement covers planned campus-wide AI integration, Southeast Asian language datasets and models with AI Singapore (AISG), and a secure research sandbox on Google Cloud that NTU will develop.

NTU said its undergraduates have had access to Google tools, including Gemini Enterprise and Vertex AI, since August 2026.

The university also aims to embed AI in 40% of undergraduate courses by 2030.

Singapore has also issued a Model AI Governance Framework for Agentic AI.

The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) also oversees emerging technologies and AI.

The partnership adds to a broader push in higher education. The National University of Singapore has worked with OpenAI on AI education initiatives.
