NTT Data unveils GCC program to boost AI adoption

NTT Data launches GCC Innovation Acceleration Program to scale offshore hubs in India and support more than 50 companies over the next three years.

The program will support GCC planning, governance design, talent development, and R&D co-creation from proof of concept to commercialization using technologies such as generative AI, digital twins, robotics, and blockchain.

NTT Data expects India’s GCC market to reach about US$110 billion by 2030.

Avinash Joshi, NTT Data’s India executive managing director, said fewer than 20% of GCCs use AI as a core capability today, and the program aims to help scale AI adoption.

NTT Data said it has already advanced various initiatives at GCCs and other innovation and delivery hubs in India.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

The race for deep-tech talent is reshaping India’s global hubs

  • NTT DATA’s program tracks how India’s Global Capability Centers (GCCs), offshore teams set up by global companies to handle IT, operations, and advanced engineering, are moving from cost savings to product and engineering work that matters more 1.
  • About 40% of these hubs already handle digital modernisation, product co-creation, and customer experience design for parent companies 2.
  • That shift is tightening hiring, with 42% of GCCs reporting gaps in specialised deep-tech skills needed to run projects end to end 1.
  • More than 70% of centers are building local leadership pipelines to close the distance between their plans and what teams can deliver today 1.

The central R&D lab model is being challenged

  • Innovation work is spreading across countries, instead of sitting mainly at corporate headquarters.
  • Companies are using GCCs for core research and development (R&D) plus customer experience design, which makes these sites a strategic asset that creates new value 2.
  • Large IT service providers such as NTT DATA need to move past basic implementation, then work as partners on R&D co-creation and talent development 3.
  • As GCCs take on higher-value work, R&D spending and intellectual property creation will keep moving across regions, which lifts ecosystems beyond traditional Western tech hubs 4.
