NTT Data, Broadcom team up to cut AI data center power use

NTT has announced a partnership with US chipmaker Broadcom and other firms to develop semiconductor packages using optical technology.

The Japanese telecom company said these devices are expected to launch in 2026 and are designed to reduce power usage in data centers that support AI processing.

NTT said the devices will use optical signals instead of traditional electrical wiring, aiming to increase processing speed and capacity.

The company said the technology could potentially cut data center power consumption by half, citing rising demand for generative AI.
