Nio’s Firefly EV targets tariff-free right-hand drive markets

Firefly, a compact EV brand owned by China’s Nio, is targeting growth in right-hand drive markets that do not impose tariffs on Chinese EVs.

The brand has exported its first batch of right-hand drive vehicles to Singapore and plans to enter Thailand and the UK in 2026, with ongoing talks with local distributors.

Nio, which faces profitability challenges amid a consolidating Chinese EV market, reported a Q2 net loss of US$697.2 million and expects to break even in Q4, said CEO William Li.

Firefly will be marketed in Singapore as a boutique small car, priced higher than competitors such as BYD’s Dolphin, Jin said.
