Nintendo’s newly launched Switch 2 has become the fastest-selling console in US history, according to market tracker Circana.

The company sold 1.6 million units of the US$450 console in June.

This figure surpasses the previous record of 1.1 million units set by Sony’s PlayStation 4 in 2013.

The strong sales of the Switch 2 contributed to a rise in gaming hardware spending in the US.

Americans spent US$978 million on gaming devices and accessories in June.

The Switch 2 has also seen success in Japan, where it is the fastest-selling console, according to Famitsu retail data.
