Nintendo beats Q1 forecasts despite 34% Switch 2 sales drop

Nintendo, the Japan-based video game company behind the Switch console and Super Mario franchise, reported fiscal first-quarter revenue and profit above analyst estimates, even as Switch 2 sales fell 34.4% year on year to 3.82 million units.

The company kept its full-year net sales forecast at 2.1 trillion yen (US$13 billion) for the year ending March 2027.

In the quarter ended June 30, sales of the original Switch fell 31.8% to 660,000 units.

Game sales were led by Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, which sold 7.94 million units.

Nintendo also said it had built nearly 100 billion yen (US$634 million) in higher component costs, especially memory prices, and tariffs into its cost of sales.

The company had earlier announced that the Switch 2’s US price would rise to US$499.99 from US$449.99 effective September 1.
