Nexperia, Tata partner to make power chips in India
Dutch chipmaker Nexperia said it will partner with Tata Electronics, an Indian electronics manufacturing company, to produce a range of its power control chips at Tata’s Dholera plant.
The companies will also work together on chip testing and assembly at Tata’s Jagiroad facility.
Financial terms were not disclosed. Manufacturing will take place at Tata’s chip plant in Dholera, which is under construction and budgeted at US$11 billion.
The deal supports India’s semiconductor push. The country has established incentives for semiconductor fabrication plants and related investments.
It also comes amid a dispute over Nexperia’s ties with Chinese parent Wingtech.
A Dutch court has ordered an investigation into Nexperia, while separate proceedings have heard arguments over alleged mismanagement and its relationship with Wingtech.
