Nexperia China resumes operations after IT outage
Nexperia’s Chinese unit said most operations in China have resumed after a March 3 mass disabling of employees’ office accounts that blocked access to company software.
Nexperia is a Netherlands-based chipmaker and a unit of China’s Wingtech.
Nexperia China said the outage significantly disrupted some production processes, including the SAP order-to-production workflow for customer-supplied wafers, and prompted an emergency response.
The accounts were disabled on the evening of March 3, preventing employees in China from accessing company software.
Nexperia China said most business operations have restarted, and it is making efforts to minimise impacts on future production and delivery.
A Dutch state intervention last year installed a European management team at Nexperia, a move that sparked tensions between Europe and China.
Reuters reported the intervention triggered a crisis that disrupted global supplies of basic chips for the car industry, and Nexperia’s Chinese unit later declared itself independent of European management.
