News platform TechCrunch sold to private equity firm Regent

Technology news platform TechCrunch has been acquired by Regent, a private equity firm with interests in media, retail, and manufacturing. Yahoo, its previous owner, will retain a minority stake.

The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

TechCrunch will relocate its operations to new offices leased by Regent in San Francisco and New York.

Founded in 2005, TechCrunch is known for its coverage of technological innovation and industry trends. Regent plans to uphold the editorial independence of its journalism team.

Despite the broader challenges in the news industry, TechCrunch has seen a steady rise in readership over the past year.

This acquisition marks another shift in ownership for TechCrunch, which was previously owned by AOL and Verizon.

However, no major changes are expected in its current operations, and it will continue to focus on original reporting and analysis.
