Netlist, Samsung settle dispute, sign patent deal
Netlist, a US memory technology company, said on August 5 it signed five-year patent licensing and product supply agreements with Samsung Electronics, settling all pending legal actions between them.
The deal gives Samsung access to Netlist’s patent portfolio, including patents for server dual in-line memory modules and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) used in AI servers and high-performance computing.
Samsung will also buy 10 million Netlist shares and supply Netlist with dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) and NAND flash memory.
But the announcement did not disclose what stake the share purchase would represent.
The companies had fought for years in court, and Texas juries awarded Netlist US$303 million in 2023 and US$118 million in 2024 over memory technology disputes.
Netlist said it has generated US$1 billion in revenue since inception and holds more than 100 patents.
One US International Trade Commission (ITC) investigation involving Samsung memory products was headed to a November 2026 hearing as of July 16, and a second probe had opened.
The settlement announcement did not explicitly say whether those cases would be withdrawn.
