Netflix stock jumps after record subscriber growth
Netflix added 18.9 million subscribers in Q4 2024, reaching a total of about 302 million, marking its highest quarterly gain ever.
The fourth quarter showcased strong performances from returning series, such as “Squid Game” season two.
Netflix reported earnings of US$4.27 per share for the quarter, surpassing Wall Street’s expectations of US$4.20 per share.
Revenue reached US$10.2 billion, reflecting a 16% year-on-year increase.
Additionally, the board approved an additional US$15 billion in share buybacks, increasing total authorization to US$17.1 billion.
Netflix’s stock jumped 13% in after-hours trading, adding nearly US$50 billion to its market value.
In response to rising content costs, Netflix raised subscription prices in several countries, including the United States, Canada, Portugal, and Argentina.
The ad-supported plan now costs US$7.99 per month in the US, while the premium package is priced at US$24.99.
