Netflix removes ‘Palestinian Stories’ films, sparks backlash
Netflix has reduced its “Palestinian Stories” collection from 32 films to just two as of mid-October, drawing criticism from human rights activists and social media users.
The removed films highlighted themes of family life and life.
In 2021, Im Tirtzu, an Israeli watchdog, criticized the collection. They claimed some directors supported the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.
Activist groups, including Freedom Forward, oppose Netflix’s decision and argue it suppresses Palestinian narratives.
Netflix had previously stressed its commitment to artistic freedom and diversity in response to criticism. However, the recent reduction in films indicates a possible change in approach.
