Nestlé to invest $688m in AI-powered Thailand factory

Thailand’s Board of Investment (BOI) said on July 9 that it had approved a 23 billion baht (US$688 million) investment by Nestlé (Thai), to build an automated factory and distribution center in Samut Prakan. The facility will use AI and automation.

The project will create more than 520 jobs, and source about 4.3 billion baht (US$130 million) of local agricultural inputs and raw materials each year.

The facility is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2028 with an annual production capacity of 170,000 metric tons of coffee products.

The investment follows the end of Nestlé’s manufacturing and licensing agreements in Thailand in late 2024.

It comes as Thailand’s instant coffee market grew 5% year on year to 5.7 billion baht (US$170 million) in the first quarter of 2024, while the ready-to-drink coffee market rose 10% to 3.8 billion baht (US$114 million).
