NBA joins $40m series A in US startup Fastbreak AI
Fastbreak AI has raised US$40 million in series A funding from investors including Greycroft, GTMfund, the NBA, NHL, TMRW Sports, and several professional athletes.
The new funding will support further product development for professional leagues and increase investment in youth and amateur sports technology.
Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, Fastbreak AI develops sports operations software for scheduling and event management.
The company provides scheduling technology to over 55 professional sports leagues globally, including the NBA, NHL, AFL, Serie A, and MLS.
It has also expanded into the amateur sports market, working with organizations such as USA Taekwondo and Lightning Basketball.
Founded in 2022, Fastbreak AI reports having customers worldwide.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Fastbreak AI’s progress remains unclear despite high-profile league partnerships
- Fastbreak AI names the NBA and NHL as customers, but outside reporting adds context the funding news skipped 12.
- League-wide use spans the NBA, WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association), G League (the NBA’s official minor league), and NBA2K League (the NBA’s esports league) 3. The league still uses KPMG, a global consulting firm, for scheduling, and no one has decided to switch to Fastbreak.ai 3.
- Fastbreak may serve as a supplementary tool, not the primary system-of-record (the official source of truth for schedules) 3. That leaves open whether these deals are full migrations or limited pilots (time-bound trials), which changes revenue potential and defensibility 3.
- The company launched its Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform in May 3. Multi-year deals would still be early, so client counts are hard to check against public contract values or exclusivity terms (agreements that prevent using other vendors) 3.
City recreation software RFPs create open doors for rivals
- Cities like Lathrop, California, and the District of Columbia are issuing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for recreation registration and youth program software 45.
- These municipal procurement processes (formal government purchasing) give rival vendors easier ways to win youth and amateur sports clients 45.
- The City of Lathrop set an October 2025 RFP deadline for recreation registration systems, which signals active demand that rivals can pursue 4.
- Vendors with integrated payments and compliance can stand out in RFPs, since cities want unified systems, not point solutions (single-purpose tools) for scheduling.
