Naver, Samsung SDS join South Korea’s AI project
South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT selected Naver Cloud, Samsung SDS, and Elice Group for a 2.1 trillion won (US$1.35 billion) project.
The initiative is part of the country’s AI Highway program.
The deployment will include 2,016 next-generation Vera Rubin units and 7,688 B300 units.
Of these, 6,376 GPUs are reserved for government use, including sovereign AI foundation models and national AI projects.
The remaining 3,328 B300 units will be run by the three companies for cloud services. The ministry plans to place purchase orders this month.
It expects to launch B300-based services this year, and roll out Vera Rubin services in phases from the first half of 2027.
The AI Highway was a broader national AI computing buildout that pools public and private resources
The government aims to deploy 37,000 GPUs targeted by 2026 for national projects, public AI services, startups, and wider industry, academic, and research use.
The National AI Computing Center is also part of the broader expansion plan.
The government aims to secure an additional 10,000 units through public-private collaboration.
