Naver Pay tops South Korea mobile payments: survey

In South Korea, Naver Pay, the mobile payment service operated by Seoul-based internet company Naver, was the most-used mobile payment platform in the past month, according to market researcher Open Survey.

A total of 64.7% of surveyed consumers said they had used the service.

Kakao Pay ranked second at 49.8%, followed by Toss Pay at 31.1%.

Survey respondents said they mainly chose Naver Pay for reward points and discounts.

Naver said its paid membership lets users earn up to 5% back in Naver Pay points on services including Naver Shopping, Naver Reservation, and Webtoon.

For mobile money transfers, Kakao Pay led with 45.2%, ahead of Toss Pay at 32.6% and Naver Pay at 22.3%. Nearly 40% of users said they chose Kakao Pay because the recipient also used the service.

Kakao said users can send money and pay bills through KakaoTalk.
